Mieke Groot

Mieke Groot was born in 1949 in Alkmaar, Netherland. Groot studied, from 1969 to 1974 at Gerrit Rietveld Academie at Jewellery Department, in Amsterdam and from 1974 to 1976 at the Glass Department, always at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. The first professional experience start with Richard Meitner in Amsterdam from 1976, after the end of her studies. From 1978 to 1981 she work as a free-lance designer for Royal Leerdam and in 1981 she became the head of the Glass Department, at Gerrit Rietveld Academie. During her life Mieke Groot continue to be a Guest teacher at the Musée-Ateller du Verre, Sars-Poteries in France. She has participate as a Masterclass leader in numerous master courses concerning glass. In the last ten years, Groot, from 2009 to 2013 was the artistic director at the Notrh Lands Creative Glass, in Lybster (Scotland). After this experience, she traveled to Senegal and start the project “Works from Dakar” in collaboration with Caterina Tognon gallery (Venice), from 2014 to 2015. In 2017 Mieke Groot was Speaker at “Bljoux”, North Museum, West Palm Beach in Florida, USA.

Before 2010, Groot has made a lot of important exhibition in solo or in group. The first one was at the Museum Aemstelle, in Amstelveen, NL in 1974.
