Toots Zynsky | Nature and its image
*EXTENDED TO APRIL 22, 2023*
Caterina Tognon Arte Contemporanea is pleased to announce the solo show by the artist Toots Zynsky, an exhibition that we have been waiting for for many years and which will finally be inaugurated on Saturday, September 17th, at 6.30 pm.
Throughout her career, Toots Zynsky (Boston, 1951; lives and works in Providence, RI, USA) has always looked to nature as a primary source of inspiration.
For this exhibition at the Caterina Tognon gallery in Venice, the artist presents a new body of works that explores, through the chromatic element, the complex relationship between man and the environment.
Of particular interest to Zynsky are some endangered animal species – in particular birds, but also corals –, which become the protagonists of a naturalistic and at the same time imaginative representation: the artist abstracts the natural element from the environmental context and, using a pioneering technique of glass working called filet-de-verre, builds her own, intimate and abstract iconography.
Her works, statements of pure color, transcend any category and inhabit a region of their own, intertwining the traditions of painting, sculpture and decorative arts. In glass, Zynsky molds sinuous shapes, rich in folds and curves, which overwhelm the rigidity of the material itself and set the colors in motion, creating a kinetic and illusionistic effect that can only be found in nature.
